Guat's Up? Weeks 1-2

It's been three weeks since I have left home and boy has time flewn! We started our journey at the Dulles airport in VA. (I took a red eye from San Francisco and took full advantage of the Chipotle that opened at 6AM:-)) We then flew to San Salvador and then to Guatemala City. The traveling didn't stop there because then we took the bus to Tecpan. I could bore you with more details of traveling, but I'll stop right there. We did a ten day orientation in San Juan which is on Lake Atitlan. We spent our days swimming, hiking the Indian Nose, going to a parade, a Spanish mass at 6AM, canoeing. Oh ya, how could I forget ALL the safety talks ;) After orientation, we found ourselves back in America for two days, or should I say Antigua. The architecture amazing but I mean come on, a North Face store?? We climbed the Pacaya volcano, one of three active volcanos in Guatemala, it was nice walking on soft ash rather than dirt. We've been in Guatemala city for the past week and will be here for the next six days or so before we go off to live with our host families in Tecpan. I will give more detail on what we've been doing in Guatemala City later this week but for now, pictures!

  2. Clare, this is so incredible! (This is your Aunt Jessica, I have no idea how to post this under my name.) I am amazed at how much you have done in such a short amount of time. (I'm tired just reading about it!) I have been thinking of you, worrying about you; I am so happy to see photographic evidence of you alive and well. It seems you are soaking it all in and taking advantage of what each day offers...leaving your Clare-prints everywhere, even upon lava! I'm really impressed. You are going to be forever changed by this adventure, so keep posting/writing/taking pictures. I'm excited to hear and see more! Uncle Larry & I love you very much!
